Retail Assault is a concise combat experience, designed primarily as a platform for me to master the fundamentals of animating weapon attack, reload and equip sequences, player and NPC hurt animations, UI and audio feedback as well as fine-tuning the overall game feel of combat.

This project served as a hands-on exploration of the nuances required to craft engaging and impactful combat mechanics.  With the quirky premise of using everyday home improvement tools as clichéd first-person shooter weapons, Retail Assault offers players access to three distinct and creative weapons: a golf club for close-range bashing, a staple gun for mid-range precision, and a vacuum cleaner for both combat and environmental manipulation.

Each weapon has three distinct attack modes (Light, Medium and Heavy) and brings a unique flair to the gameplay, adding an unconventional twist to the combat experience. I also used this as an opportunity to experiment with shaders as an effective aesthetic tool within the Unity engine.

The game embraces a retro PS1-era visual style, featuring low polygon counts and simplistic textures to capture the nostalgic look and feel of classic games. Shaders were implemented to enhance the overall visual impact, adding depth and character to the game’s minimalist design.
