EXODUS 2 is a relentless, retro-inspired first-person shooter, crafted as part of the GAM300 module at DigiPen Institute of Technology. Combining classic FPS intensity with modern design sensibilities, it delivers an unyielding, adrenaline-fueled experience that pays homage to the golden era of gaming. Players must navigate through a hostile alien planet, racing against time to complete each level before their oxygen supply depletes. Armed with a diverse arsenal of weapons, the game blends elements of speedrunning and precise movement with intense, fast-paced combat, delivering a relentless and thrilling experience.

As the art lead, I continued to build upon the foundation of my GAM200 project, shaping its sequel and evolution into EXODUS 2. This continuation allowed me to refine the artistic vision, push boundaries, and elevate the visual storytelling to new heights. Like its predecessor, EXODUS 2 aesthetic and themes draw heavily from the charm of retro video games. With its transition to a 3D format, the project takes particular inspiration from the iconic aesthetics of GoldSrc-era games and the fluid, responsive aiming and movement mechanics of Quake engine classics. This fusion creates a nostalgic yet fresh experience that captures the essence of old-school gaming.

The gameplay of EXODUS 2 also takes significant inspiration from modern “retro” shooters like ULTRAKILL, DUSK, and DOOM Eternal. It incorporates advanced mechanics such as wall running and slide boosting, enhancing the fast-paced action and adding layers of fluidity and skill to the experience.

As the art lead, I was responsible for creating and modeling all in-game assets and environmental elements. I also developed textures and animations, utilizing tools such as Autodesk Maya and the Adobe Creative Suite to bring the game's visual world to life. As of Winter 2024, EXODUS 2 is still actively in development, with the team dedicating significant time and effort to fine-tuning every aspect of the game. New features, levels, and polish are being added to ensure the final experience is immersive, engaging, and delivers on its promise to be a standout homage to classic and modern shooters alike.
