Inspired by my love of gritty war and military films, as well as my fascination with military technology, DDAY was created with the goal of replicating the intense combat and harrowing experiences depicted in movies like Saving Private Ryan, Hacksaw Ridge and Edge of Tomorrow.
The game aims to immerse players in the brutal, chaotic realities of a firefight, emphasizing the raw emotions and trauma experienced by soldiers caught in a military ambush.Furthermore, extensive research was conducted on existing video game sequences that have successfully captured the intensity and emotional weight of war, such as those in Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, Call of Duty 2, and Call of Duty: WWII.
These games provided valuable insights into how to balance relative realism with visual storytelling.Visually, DDAY also serves as an experiment in utilizing post-processing techniques to enhance the emotional impact of the game without overwhelming the experience.
The goal was to fine-tune visual effects—such as color grading, bloom, and depth of field—to subtly amplify the atmosphere, making the combat and dramatic moments more immersive while maintaining a sense of authenticity and restraint.
